  • What is the cancellation/refund policy?

    In the unlikely event that a trip must be cancelled by the provider - Roam Yellowstone Guiding - (due to weather, equiptment failure, emergencies, etc.) you will recieve a full refund of the tour price paid to Roam Yellowstone Guiding. Other travel expenses are not reimbursed.


    Enhanced Cancellation Policy (most flexible):  Receive a 95% refund of the tour price for cancellations made before 8:00am the day BEFORE the tour date (approx. 24 hrs in advance).  This option must be checked and paid for during the booking checkout.


    Example: You Safari Tour is booked for July 27th. You have a family emergency come up and need to cancel. If you bought enhanced terms at checkout, you can cancel before 8:00am on July 26th and recieve a 95% refund of the tour price - no questions asked. The enhanced cancellation fee ($95) is non refundable.


    Standard Cancellation Policy (less flexible): A 25% down payment is collected at the time of booking which is refundable if cancelled over 1 year before the tour.


    A 75% refund is given for cancellations greater than 2 week before the tour date. 


    No refund is given for cancellations within 2 weeks of the tour date.

  • What vehicle do we use for tours and how many people can we fit?

    We use a Ford Explorer for our tours and we can fit 6 passengers.

  • Can you accomodate dietary preferences for lunches?

    Yes. We can accommodate any dietary preferences and food allergies!

  • Does the price include entrance to the park?

    No, you will be required to pay at the park gate. 

  • Do I tip my guide?

    Gratuity is an important part of a guide's income and is always appreciated! Please consider a standard 20% for a job well done.

  • Are participants provided bear spray?

    Yes! Any participants over the age of 16 is provided bear spray if they would like to carry it. Your guide will Always bring bear spray. 

  • What do I need to bring on my hike?

    Water and Food:

    • Required: Water Bottle/bottles - 2-3 liters per person minimum, Diet Specific Snacks
    • Optional but recommended: Favorite snacks

    Clothing:

    • Required: Sturdy and comfortable hiking boots/shoes! (It's not fun to break in shoes on the day of the hike; wear them around the house first), Moisture wicking quick dry clothing (Avoid Cotton clothing), Light insulating layer (fleece, wool, puffy), Rain Coat, sunglasses, sun hat and sunscreen
    • Optional but recommended: Extra layers are recommended if the weather is predicted to be rainy or cold OR if you get cold easily, thin hat and gloves, Baseball cap

    Health:

    • Required: Medications, sunscreen
    • Optional but recommended: Hand Sanitizer, Menstrual products, SPF lip balm, and Baby wipes

    Accessories:

    • Optional but recommended: Camera, waterproof case or sandwich bag for phone 

  • How can I look up the weather?

  • Do I need to sign a waiver of liability?

    You are not required to sign a waiver of liability; however, we do require you to sign an acknowledgment of risk form that can be downloaded by clicking this link.

  • How do you teach navigation skills during the hike?

    Your guide will take time during breaks and lunch to do short demonstrations about taking bearings, using a topographic map, orienting oneself, using an altimeter, and using a GPS

  • Will we hike if the weather is bad?

    It is rare that we cancel a hike due to weather. Plan to hike in adverse weather conditions: bring water proof rain coats with a hood and water proof pants if rain is forecasted

  • Will my cell phone have service?

    No, there are very few areas in Yellowstone National Park that are covered with cell phone reception.

  • Can I bring my pet?

    No, pets are not allowed on tours with Roam Yellowstone Guiding. If you have a registered service animal (i.e. seeign eye dog, medical alert animal) they may be welcome on the tour. Please call or email to confirm.
